Trading standards officials in Derbyshire have made a significant seizure of illegal cigarettes, tobacco, and vapes in recent raids. The confiscated items, which had an estimated street value of £256,000, were described as a mixture of counterfeit goods and products smuggled in to avoid paying duty.
The raids, which took place in the last two weeks, resulted in the recovery of more than 1,000 cigarettes, rolling tobacco, and over 280 vapes from a location in the Erewash area. Additionally, a larger seizure of 363,000 cigarettes and 20kg of tobacco, valued at £250,000, was made in south Derbyshire.
According to Chris Henning, the director of the council, the enforcement actions taken by trading standards demonstrate that the supply of illegal products will not be tolerated in Derbyshire. He emphasized that those who continue to flout the law may face prosecution.
