Skoda has introduced its latest and most powerful Octavia vRS model yet, and it’s receiving high praise as a high-performance all-rounder. With enhanced power and an upgraded interior, the fourth-generation Skoda Octavia vRS facelift is standing out as one of the top high-performance hatchbacks on the market. While it may not be the fastest or most thrilling car out there, it offers plenty of speed and agility for everyday driving. With strong performance in all areas and no significant weaknesses, it’s proving to be a fantastic and fast option for families.
With a history of success in the UK market, the Skoda Octavia vRS has gained popularity for its combination of practicality, easy handling, and impressive on-road performance. The updates made to the latest version of the fourth-generation model have further enhanced its appeal without making drastic changes. The exterior of the vRS now features updated looks, including LED Matrix headlights with ‘Crystallinium’ signatures, striking bumpers, black body detailing, and model-specific badges. Additionally, it comes with stylish 19-inch ‘Elias’ alloy wheels, adding to its overall aesthetic appeal.
Inside, the Octavia vRS boasts a new and improved 13-inch infotainment system, updated interior trims and upholstery, a 15-watt wireless smartphone charging pad, and a 10-inch digital driver’s display. The spacious interior, known to be a hallmark of the Octavia, offers ample rear legroom and headroom, along with a large boot capacity of 600 litres for the hatchback and 640 litres for the estate. Compared to the Volkswagen Golf GTI, the Octavia vRS provides a superior passenger experience, highlighting its value in the market.
The main technical update for the Octavia facelift is its 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, now producing 261bhp, bringing it in line with the Golf GTI ‘8.5’. Paired with a DSG twin-clutch seven-speed auto transmission and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, the vRS offers improved performance with quicker acceleration times. Despite being heavier than the Golf, the Octavia vRS delivers a superior driving experience due to its longer wheelbase, lower sports suspension, and precise steering.
The Octavia vRS strikes a balance between comfort and dynamic performance, offering a controlled yet comfortable ride, responsive steering, and access to the engine’s power and torque. While optional Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) adjustable dampers are available, the standard suspension setup is deemed sufficient for most drivers. Overall, the updated Skoda Octavia vRS stands out as a refined and capable option in its class, outperforming competitors like the VW Golf GTI in terms of everyday comfort and driving experience.
