Smart has recently unveiled its latest electric SUV, the Smart #5, which is not only the largest model ever produced by the brand but also the most powerful, boasting an impressive 637bhp in its top-spec dual-motor version. This puts it ahead of its smaller siblings, the #1 and #3 crossovers, as well as competitors like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT.

While the exact performance figures are yet to be revealed, it is expected that the Smart #5 will be able to accelerate from 0-62mph in under 3.0 seconds with the powerful dual-motor configuration. In addition to this top-tier option, there will also be a slightly less potent dual-motor variant with 579bhp, as well as two single-motor, rear-wheel-drive models offering 335bhp or 358bhp.

The Smart #5 will be available with different battery options, including lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries for the rear-wheel-drive models and conventional lithium-ion batteries for the all-wheel-drive versions. The SUV will come with over 100kWh of battery capacity in its longest-range configuration and will feature an 800V electrical architecture, allowing for rapid charging times of 10-80% in just 15 minutes.

In terms of dimensions, the Smart #5 measures 4705mm in length, 1920mm in width, and 1705mm in height, making it comparable in size to models like the Peugeot 5008. However, the Smart #5 will only offer seating for five passengers, unlike some of its competitors that come with seven seats.

Design-wise, the Smart #5 retains the bold and boxy proportions of the concept version but has been adapted for a more urban-focused appearance, with a lower stance and a sleeker overall look compared to the off-road-inspired concept. The production version of the Smart #5 has been revealed through images released by China’s ministry of technology, giving a glimpse of what to expect from this high-performance electric SUV.

Overall, the Smart #5 promises to deliver an exciting blend of power, range, and rapid charging capabilities in a stylish and practical package, setting a new benchmark for electric SUVs in the market.
