At this year’s Paris Motor Show, TotalEnergies and Valeo have announced their strengthened partnership to focus on developing innovative solutions for optimizing EV battery performance and reducing carbon footprint. The main objectives of the partnership include the development of an innovative cooling solution for EV batteries and a single fluid to enhance the next generation of EVs.
Since 2022, TotalEnergies and Valeo have been collaborating on an immersive cooling solution using liquid dielectric to maintain the battery at the optimal temperature. This solution aims to improve battery autonomy, reduce carbon footprint, and enhance safety against fire risk. Field trials are currently ongoing to validate the system’s performance during rapid charging.
Additionally, the partnership aims to extend the benefits of the new immersive fluids to other parts of the vehicle to develop a new thermal management system for EVs that is more energy efficient and offers greater autonomy. This commitment reflects both companies’ dedication to providing innovative and sustainable solutions for EVs that are environmentally friendly and safe.
Marie-Noëlle Semeria, the Chief Technology Officer of TotalEnergies, highlighted that the partnership will introduce innovations in the thermal management of batteries and EVs using immersive fluids, enabling rapid charging while preserving battery life. Christophe Delhovren, the Chief Technology Officer of Valeo Power Division, emphasized the collaboration’s success in developing innovative and effective solutions for battery thermal management, leading to the extension of the partnership to maximize thermal optimization across all powertrain components.
