United Airlines is making it easier than ever for skiers to hit the slopes this winter with an expanded winter schedule. The airline is adding more routes, bigger planes, and increased service to popular ski destinations from their hubs in Denver, L.A., Chicago, D.C., and Newark.
One of the highlights of the new schedule is the introduction of larger planes, specifically the Embraer E-175, to accommodate more passengers and ski gear. These planes will be flying to Aspen and Bishop/Mammoth airports, making it more convenient for travelers to reach their ski destinations.
In addition to larger planes, United Airlines is offering extra weekend service to Bozeman from Washington/Dulles and an additional flight from NYC/Newark. Weekend service is also being extended to Crested Butte with new service from Chicago to Gunnison during February and March. Southern Californians will have more opportunities to ski Whitefish with service between Los Angeles and Kalispell starting in February.
During the peak holiday season, from mid-December to the first week of January, there will be increased flights between L.A. and Sun Valley, as well as San Francisco and Sun Valley. Additionally, there will be a daily flight between L.A. and Aspen for those looking to hit the slopes during the holidays.
For skiers looking to avoid traffic, United is now offering flights from Denver to Mammoth twice a week until the end of April. East Coast skiers will also benefit from a second nonstop flight from Newark to Jackson Hole from December through March.
In comparison, Delta Airlines also announced an expansion of service to ski towns with 15 additional flights added for the winter season. Delta’s expansion includes daily service from L.A. to Bozeman and Eagle County Regional Airport, as well as daily flights during winter holidays from Minneapolis to Steamboat Springs and Jackson Hole.
With both United and Delta expanding their winter service, skiers have more options than ever to reach their favorite ski destinations. Whether you’re hitting the slopes in Aspen, Jackson Hole, or Mammoth, these airline expansions make it easier for winter sports enthusiasts to enjoy a snowy getaway. Start planning your ski trip now and take advantage of the increased flight options available this winter.
