One person died in a train accident on the route near Halle-Ammendorf during the night. According to the railway, the accident happened in a construction site area. The spokesman said that track work had taken place there. A locomotive was on its way from Magdeburg-Rothensee to Halle, said a spokeswoman for the federal police in Magdeburg. At around 3:00 a.m., the vehicle caught the workers. Three others were injured. According to the spokeswoman, the train driver suffered a shock. Other workers who were not injured were given pastoral care. The federal police and criminal police are currently investigating what happened.

According to an official order, the section of the route is still closed. The DB long-distance trains would be diverted via Leipzig/Halle Airport. There is a change of direction. Trains on the ICE lines from Hamburg/Berlin to Frankfurt am Main and Munich are affected. It is still unclear when the route will be reopened. In regional traffic, there are cancellations on the lines towards Sangerhausen and Naumburg. Freight traffic is also affected by the temporary closure.
