Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2024 Winners Unveiled

Steaming dim sum triumphs among winning food photos

The Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2024 competition has revealed its winners, with Chinese photographer Zhonghua Yang taking the overall prize with his captivating image titled Red Bean Paste Balls. The photo, which clinched the top spot in the Champagne Taittinger Food for Celebration category, was captured in the rural area of Xiangshan, Zhejiang during preparations for the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year.

Caroline Kenyon, the founder of the Pink Lady competition, praised Yang’s work, describing it as a “wonderful, perfectly-balanced image” filled with light, shadow, mystery, and poignancy. The photograph showcases exquisitely made food set against the backdrop of intricate fretwork screens, with a weary woman carrying in yet another tray in the background.

Other category winners include Lynne Kennedy from Scotland, Matteo Alberti from Japan, Barbora Baretic from the United Kingdom, Tailai Obrien from Australia, Max Jowitt and Rosie French from the UK, Natnattcha Chaturapitamorn from Thailand, Kishore Das from India, Ming Tang-Evans and Tarunima Sinha from the UK, and Azim Khan Ronnie from France. Additionally, William Dewhurst from the UK won the Young (12 and under) category with his enchanting photo titled Bee’s Breakfast.

The esteemed judging panel, led by food photographer David Loftus and including Fiona Shields from Guardian News & Media and Rein Skullerud from the United Nations World Food Programme, had the challenging task of evaluating thousands of entries from over 65 countries.

An exhibition featuring all the finalists’ works will be on display at the Mall Galleries in London from 5-9 June. All photos are subject to copyright and courtesy of Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year 2024.
