Pride of Sunderland Festival 2022: Promised to be the Largest Yet by Organizers

Sorted PR Peter Darrant, chair of Out North East, along with Sunderland council leader Graham Miller and other supporters, launched the Pride in Sunderland festival with an exciting announcement. The organizers have declared that this year’s festival is anticipated to be the “biggest yet”.

Pride in Sunderland, a month-long celebration taking place throughout June in alignment with International Pride Month, has been revamped under the management of the charity Out North East. Chair Peter Darrant expressed, “It’s about showing Sunderland is a great place to live and work, regardless of how you identify.”

With approximately 28 events in the lineup, the festival hub will be located at the Bridges Shopping Centre for the entire month. An array of activities such as exhibitions, crafting sessions, and workshops will be available at the Pride hub. Throughout June, attendees can expect film screenings, talks, tours of Sunderland football club, cabaret nights, and a family picnic with crafting activities for children.

The grand finale on June 29th will feature a city march and a free concert, promising to be the largest celebration to date. Sunderland council leader Graeme Miller highlighted the significance of the festival, emphasizing that it is a fun way to celebrate equality and diversity for the LGBTQ+ community and allies.

After the conclusion of Pride in Sunderland, Out North East will extend similar festivities to South Tyneside and Gateshead in the following months. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting event from BBC North East and Cumbria.
