Rachael English to Take Over as RTÉ’s News at One Presenter

RTÉ has announced that Rachael English will be taking over as the new presenter of Radio 1’s News at One following the retirement of Bryan Dobson. With a long and successful career in broadcasting, English is set to bring her expertise and journalistic integrity to the lunchtime radio programme, which boasts a daily audience of 300,000 listeners.

Having spent 14 years as a Morning Ireland presenter, English is no stranger to the world of radio broadcasting. She expressed her excitement about the new role, stating that it “feels like coming home” to be back on the News at One programme where she first started as a reporter.

Deirdre McCarthy, the Managing Director of News and Current Affairs at RTÉ, praised English as a highly respected journalist and outstanding broadcaster. She highlighted English’s ability to ask probing questions and hold those in power to account, ensuring that she will continue to represent the public interest on the programme.

English’s extensive experience in broadcasting includes presenting various programmes such as The Late Debate, Saturday View, and coverage of major events like elections, the Olympics, and international news stories. Her achievements in the industry were recognized in 2022 when she was inducted into the IMRO Awards Radio Hall of Fame.

With a background in journalism and a talent for storytelling, English is well-equipped to engage and inform listeners on the News at One programme. Her measured tone, reassuring delivery, and commitment to journalistic excellence make her a valuable addition to the RTÉ team.

As she prepares to take on her new role, English expressed gratitude for her time on Morning Ireland and looks forward to working with the dedicated team on the News at One programme. Listeners can expect to hear her familiar voice and insightful reporting starting from July 15th.
