Fire breaks out in a recycling plant in the Bavarian district of Erding. 13 people are injured, including eleven employees who fight the fire on their own. But only a large number of firefighters can extinguish the fire after several hours – the investigation into the cause begins.
13 employees were injured in a major fire in a recycling plant in the Erding district. Eleven of the injured worked in the Eitting plant where the fire broke out, police said. They were slightly to moderately injured during the first attempts to extinguish the fire, five of them had to be taken to the hospital. According to a police spokesman, the injuries were mainly smoke inhalation. Two police officers also had to be examined in the hospital.
The fire reportedly broke out in a sorting facility for yellow bags on the site. Later, a hall of the company was in full fire. According to initial information, the police estimated the damage caused by the fire at around one million euros.
Around 200 people from several fire departments worked for several hours to extinguish the fire. A rescue helicopter and a police helicopter were also deployed.
According to a police spokesman, the firefighters brought the fire under control later in the morning and the fire was extinguished in the early afternoon. The cause of the fire was initially unclear. The Kripo Erding has started the investigation.
