Ana Obregón’s maternity by surrogacy at age 68 became one of the main news on Wednesday, March 29. Hello! she revealed it exclusively the night before, with a cover in which the presenter appears leaving a hospital in Miami with a baby in her arms. Telemadrid reported on the issue with a controversial tweet that it ended up deleting and for which it had to apologize.

Despite the fact that the aforementioned magazine made it clear that Obregón had been “the mother of a girl by surrogate pregnancy”, the regional channel published the following message at 9:07 a.m. on Wednesday the 29th: “The actress and businesswoman has given birth in Miami to a girl on March 20, a pregnancy that she carried in the most absolute discretion”.

After deleting the publication, the Telemadrid Twitter account shared the news again with a different text just an hour later: “The actress and businesswoman Ana Obregón, 68, has become a mother by surrogate pregnancy of a girl who was born on the 20th March at the Memorial Regional Hospital in Miami, United States”.

This did not prevent users on social networks from spreading screenshots of the original message and being very critical of the channel. Almost four hours after the origin of the controversy, Telemadrid sent a message asking for forgiveness: “We apologize for the unfortunate tweet about the information on Ana Obregón’s surrogacy. We are infinitely grateful for your understanding and trust. We will continue working to improve.”

Telemadrid’s message about Ana Obregón caused the regional chain to receive a barrage of criticism on Twitter. “This is not whitewashing a baby purchase, it is an insult to intelligence, nature and life,” one person wrote. In addition, the phrase “has given birth” became a ‘trending topic’ on the social network. “It is the writing of news worthy of going out in a dystopia,” said another user.
