Fernando Castro joined Pasapalabra in the delivery issued last Thursday, May 25. The contestant defeated Andrea Siu in the blue chair, who had taken Encarni Bonillo’s place after his abandonment. The Antena 3 space indicated that the newcomer came from Santiago de Compostela and that he is doing a doctorate.
The young man admitted that he was nervous because it was his first time on television, but he conquered Roberto Leal and the public with his humor, his sarcasm and his spontaneity.
One of the notable moments of his debut took place when he identified La camisa negra, by Juanes, in one of the tests. The presenter asked him to sing and he defined her voice like this: “She seems velvety, but she really is raspy.” Gonzalo Miró, one of her guests, asked her: “Are you saying it with certainty or with doubts?” He replied: “With doubts, because I am Galician.”
The participant faced the rosco for the first time that day. The driver of the format asked him what he would do with the 388,000 euros of the prize. He gave an ironic and vindictive speech: “At my age, some of us have a crazy dream, which is to have access to decent housing before the age of 40. So, well, especially one who thinks of pursuing a research career, well surely it is a more sustainable, logical and probable plan for the future to win the jackpot of a television contest than the investigative career”.
One of the guests, Carla Nieto, highlighted: “She is investigating cancer.” Castro was only two words away from completing the rosco and defeated Moisés Laguardia in his first duel.
Roberto Leal reviewed Fernando Castro’s curriculum in Pasapalabra on Monday, May 29: “You are studying for a doctorate in Statistics and Genetics. You work at the USC (University of Santiago de Compostela) as a researcher and also at the IDIS (Health Research Institute from Santiago)”.
The contestant commented, “Yes, very correct, you are very knowledgeable.” The Andalusian responded and laughed: “Man, you told me.” Then he asked her how she was organized: “Do you have time for everything? Now here too?” The man from Santiago replied: “Yes, the ‘now here too’ thing is a factor that is certainly not going to help my time.”
That day he wore a T-shirt from Atlantic Pride, a Coruña LGBTI festival, on the program. The event’s Instagram account, which will be held at the beginning of July in 2023, echoed this.
For the next installment, Castro wore the painting The Starry Night, by Van Gogh, in his outfit. He returned to show off his irony during the donut, when he was three hits away from completing it and said: “It’s just that 406,000 euros is little.”
