Flapmax, in partnership with Intel, is launching the Quantum AI Challenge, an initiative aimed at fostering innovation and collaboration among Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This challenge invites students, faculty, and researchers to utilize quantum computing and AI technologies to solve real-world problems. Applications for the challenge will open on September 20, 2024.

Dr. Dave Ojika, CEO of Flapmax, emphasized the importance of sustainability in the era of ubiquitous AI and highlighted the potential of quantum computing to optimize problem-solving in a more sustainable manner. By teaming up with Intel and HBCUs, Flapmax aims to equip the next generation with the necessary tools to explore AI and quantum computing, drive scientific discovery, and make a meaningful impact across various industries.

The Quantum AI Challenge builds on the existing collaboration between Flapmax and Intel to accelerate AI innovation in underserved communities. This challenge encourages participants to tackle complex optimization problems with the potential to revolutionize industries such as healthcare, energy, material science, and supply chain management. Selected teams will receive exclusive access to quantum computing hardware, AI tools, and mentorship from global experts, offering a valuable platform for hands-on learning and innovation.

Michael Campbell, General Manager of the Education Client Division at Intel Corporation, expressed excitement about supporting this initiative that empowers HBCU students to lead in the AI and quantum computing space. By providing access to Intel’s cutting-edge AI hardware and tools, the aim is to drive innovation and foster inclusion within the quantum community.

Participants in the Quantum AI Challenge will work closely with AI and quantum computing experts to address global challenges and develop practical applications across key industries. Teams will define real-world optimization problems, create quantum algorithms and circuits, and run Python-based quantum simulations enhanced with AI on Intel AI PCs. Winning teams will have the opportunity to showcase their solutions to a global audience, win prizes, receive mentorship, and more.

In addition to the Quantum AI Challenge, Flapmax is dedicated to forming partnerships that spur technological growth, boost local economies, and expand the tech ecosystem. The Flapmax FAI Institute and FAST Accelerator, in collaboration with Microsoft, are instrumental in advancing human potential through research, educational programs, and support for local entrepreneurs and startups.

Participants in the Quantum AI Challenge will also have access to the FAST Accelerator and the HPC AI Forum, organized by Flapmax to bring together HPC centers across Africa to discuss advancements in HPC, AI, and quantum computing. The challenge prioritizes HBCU students, faculty, and researchers working in teams and focusing on projects in healthcare, education, energy, material science, or other social-impact fields.
