A stunning landmarked brownstone at 68 Rutland Road in Brooklyn’s up-and-coming Prospect Lefferts Gardens just closed for $2.63 million, which appears to be the priciest sale for a single-family home in the neighborhood.
Writer Ta-Nehisi Coates received more than $2.1 million for a briefly owned townhouse that he sold for safety concerns, as Gimme Shelter reported last week.
The Rutland Road house’s sale price is significantly more than the $1.75 million the owner, listed under an LLC, bought the home for last year, city records show.
The Romanesque Revival property was designed by architect Robert Dixon in the late 19th century.
The 20-foot-wide, 4,056-square-foot home comes with front and rear Casinovale bay windows, and a cellar.
There’s also a Queen Anne-style stoop and lots of original woodwork, including pier mirrors, wainscoting, mantels, parquet floors, pocket doors and pocket shutters, according to the listing.
Modern touches include a chef’s kitchen with custom inset Shaker cabinetry, which overlooks the garden.
The kitchen also sports a beamed ceiling and an island with a farm sink, along with an adjacent dining “alcove.”
“Prospect Lefferts Gardens — or if you want to be trendy, PLG — is what Bed Stuy was 3 years ago. It’s a great story,” says Alex Maroni, the listing broker, from Douglas Elliman.
