The National Theatre recently announced the addition of Ncuti Gatwa and Sharon D Clarke to the cast of the upcoming production of Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy, The Importance of Being Earnest. The play is scheduled to run at the Lyttelton Theatre from November 20, 2024, to January 25, 2025.
Directed by Max Webster in his National Theatre debut, the production will feature an impressive cast including Richard Cant as Reverend Canon Chasuble, Sharon D Clarke as Lady Bracknell, Ncuti Gatwa as Algernon Moncrieff, Amanda Lawrence as Miss Prism, and Hugh Skinner as Jack Worthing. Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́ will play Gwendolen Fairfax, and Eliza Scanlen will take on the role of Cecily Cardew.
The creative team behind the production includes set and costume design by Rae Smith, lighting design by Jon Clark, sound design by Nicola T Chang, composition by DJ Walde, and movement direction by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille. Alastair Coomer is responsible for casting the talented ensemble.
In addition to The Importance of Being Earnest, the National Theatre has also announced the production of Ballet Shoes for the festive season, offering audiences a variety of performances to enjoy.
