CLEVELAND, Ohio – There was little doubt as to who would win Best Original Song at the 89th Academy Awards on Sunday night.
“City of Stars” as the heavy favorite throughout awards season. And for good reason.
The song is the music centerpiece of “La La Land,” a film that has injected new life into the Hollywood musical genre. And it’s sung so beautifully by co-stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
“City of Stars” beat out strong competition from Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” (“Trolls”) and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “How Far I’ll Go” (“Moana”).
But “La La Land’s” toughest competitor may have been itself, as the film’s song “Audition (The Fools Who Dream”) was also nominated. You can hear “City of Stars” and “Audition” below:
