Border Controls Reinforced for G7 Summit in Puglia – Interior Ministry
The interior ministry announced on Friday that Italy will be implementing border controls for the upcoming G7 summit in Puglia, from June 5 to June 18. This decision comes as a precautionary measure to ensure security during the event.
According to the ministry, the national land, sea, and air borders will be temporarily subject to controls during the summit. This move is in line with the standard practice followed by states during similar high-profile events.
The suspension of the Schengen free movement regime will be in effect from 14:00 on June 5 to 14:00 on June 18, 2024. This measure is being implemented in accordance with Articles 25 and 27 of EU Regulation 2016/399 of 9 March 2016.
Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi emphasized the importance of reinforcing border controls to ensure the safety and security of all participants and attendees during the G7 summit in Puglia.
As the preparations for the summit continue, Italy remains committed to hosting a successful and secure event for all involved.
