Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) is equipped to handle many situations in life but being in prison is certainly not one of them. The triple Ph.D. holder, who was accused of killing a Mexican doctor and smuggling drugs to the border, will don an orange jumpsuit and adjust to life behind bars in “Criminal Minds” Season 12, episode 15.
Of course, life is prison is nothing compared to working in the FBI. The CBS series will explore Reid’s life and the many challenges that are thrown at him while he’s in jail. But he won’t be the only FBI Agent locked up in the upcoming episode.
According to a report by CBS, Reid will meet a former FBI Agent named Calvin Shaw/Smitty (played by “Lost” alum Harold Perrineau). Shaw was found guilty of killing one of his informants. The agent will confront a member of the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit). The promo reveals that this BAU member is none other than our favorite nerd.
“You killed that doctor in Mexico?” Shaw asks Reid point blank.
Given that Gubler’s character frequently comes across as a know-it-all to strangers, it will not be surprising to see him make some enemies in prison. Moreover, trust is a very rare commodity in jail. Fortunately, it looks like Shaw will give Reid some survival tips. The question is: Can Reid and his profiling friends trust him?
While Spencer is working hard to survive a grim world, the BAU will investigate a case involving acid attack victims, according to the synopsis of episode 15 by TVGuide. These victims’ faces have been disfigured.
“Criminal Minds” Season 12 will continue to explore Reid’s complicated storyline till the season finale. His mother Diana (Jane Lynch) will again appear in episode 20.
“Criminal Minds” airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
