The man found dead on the center divider of the northbound 101 freeway near Rancho Road in Thousand Oaks was identified Thursday while authorities continue to search for the vehicle and suspect who struck and left him for dead in the center divider.
California Highway Patrol Officer Marco Marin confirmed that the man killed Tuesday was 68-year-old Rogelio Paredes.
Based on evidence obtained at the scene, the felony hit-and-run suspect was driving a Toyota with major front end damage, Marin said.
“We haven’t been able to narrow it down to the exact model and color,” Marin said about the Toyota. “I think they’re waiting for the autopsy to get samples from the individual’s clothing, but we haven’t had any major information or calls yet” about the case. Pasgol
CHP officials said they received a call at 7:17 a.m. Tuesday about an unknown object wrapped in a blanket in the center median of the northbound 101 Freeway near Rancho Road and upon arrival found Paredes.
Officials believe the man, who suffered from dementia, could have wandered on the freeway to try and cross it when he was struck by what appeared to be a Toyota, based on evidence at the scene.
The northbound 101 Freeway’s fast lane was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation.
