Suspect in Long Branch standoff accused of stabbing 2, including woman in bed

LONG BRANCH – A city man who barricaded himself inside a house in Long Branch and kept authorities at bay for several hours Wednesday was wanted by police for stabbing a woman in her neck as she slept, court documents allege.

Dennismar Andrade, 27, was facing charges of attempted murder, robbery and weapons offenses after he used a kitchen knife to stab a woman sleeping in a bed and a man inside a Long Branch residence early Saturday, according to the criminal complaint.

At around 1:20 a.m., Andrade allegedly stabbed the woman in her neck and left ear and also on her left thumb as she used her hand to protect her face, the complaint said.

He then stabbed a man in the neck before going through his pockets for cash, the document said. Andrade did not steal any cash, the complaint said.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said both victims were taken to the hospital where they were treated and Vdcasino released. The complaint said they both received multiple stitches.

Police investigating the stabbing learned that Andrade was at a house on Ludlow Avenue. When they arrived at the home Wednesday morning, he had barricaded himself in the wall and had a stash of food and water with him, authorities said.

A standoff between Andrade and police ensued and lasted for several hours, as multiple agencies and police officers clad in tactical gear with rifles descended on the house.

Andrade was eventually arrested, authorities said. He was also charged with eluding police and obstructing the administration of law.

During the standoff, U.S. Marshals responded to the scene because U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had a detainer placed on Andrade, Gramiccioni said.
