Météo-France places twenty departments on orange vigilance for heat waves and thunderstorms this Tuesday, July 11, six being placed under both vigilances. Nine departments are still affected by the heatwave alert, these are Alpes-Maritimes, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Isère, Loire, Rhône, Ain, Saône- et-Loire, Jura and Côte-d’Or. Seventeen departments are placed on orange alert for thunderstorms: Allier, Puy-de-Dôme, Ain, Rhône, Loire, Saône-et-Loire, Jura, Côte- d’Or, Haute-Marne, Haute-Saône, Vosges, Doubs, Territoire de Belfort, Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin, Moselle and Meurthe-et-Moselle.
Potentially violent thunderstorms will develop from Auvergne to Alsace in the afternoon, warns Météo-France. Very strong gusts of up to 100-120 km/h are expected, as well as hailstorms with a risk of large hailstones several centimeters in diameter, and strong electrical activity. Thunderstorms will evacuate to Germany in the evening or early night. Overall, the weather will be cloudy over the whole country, with strong heat in the East and therefore this stormy deterioration.
From Brittany to the north of the Cotentin, from the morning the sky will be overcast and will be accompanied by light scattered rains. From the Pays de la Loire and Normandy to the west of Hauts-de-France, the cloudy periods will thicken during the morning and the rains or showers will win the afternoon, becoming locally stormy . On the rest of the country, the day will start under a mostly clear sky. But quickly in the morning, from Poitou to the Centre-Val de Loire, the sky will take charge and a few storms may break out. Elsewhere, sunny periods will dominate despite increasingly cloudy skies in New Aquitaine. From Occitania to the Alps, there too the cloudy periods will gradually impose themselves and in the evening locally stormy showers will start.
In terms of temperatures, the minimums will range from 13 to 17 degrees in the northwest quarter to the Belgian border, from 17 to 22 degrees elsewhere, or even 22 to 24 from Lyonnais to Mâconnais, in Occitanie and Paca. The maximum will range from 20 to 25 degrees over western Brittany and the Channel coasts, from 26 to 31 degrees from Hauts-de-France to Pays de la Loire and up to Aquitaine, from 32 to 37 degrees elsewhere, up to 36 to 39 degrees from Alsace and eastern Burgundy to Rhône-Alpes and Paca as well as eastern Midi-Pyrenees and Roussillon.
