Rain will follow one another in the west and north of the country on Thursday February 8, with a sustained southwest wind, leading to a risk of flooding in Pas-de-Calais, according to Météo-France. The meteorological agency placed the Pas-de-Calais department on orange alert due to a risk of flooding on the Canche, in its bulletin published around 6 a.m.
“The rain forecast for Thursday and during the night from Thursday to Friday will cause a new reaction on the Race and will fuel the current flood of the Canche. Significant overflows could be observed on the Canche, particularly in the Brimeux sector,” we can read on the Vigicrues website.
Prime Minister Gabriel Attal will travel to Pas-de-Calais to visit flood victims, for whom he had reserved his first trip and promised to return, government spokesperson Prisca Thevenot announced on Wednesday.
Mr. Attal, who will be accompanied by the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, intends to “express his support for the elected officials, residents and traders affected” and “welcome the action” of the emergency services and elected officials, Matignon said on Wednesday evening, all by “ensuring the implementation of support measures”.
He will go to Blendecques, where he will talk with affected traders and visit a dike where flood zone protection devices will be presented to him. In Longuenesse, he will speak in front of local elected officials, rescue forces and residents, before returning to Clairmarais, at the Relais du Lac, where he had already met the manager on January 9.
