The 52nd running of the ASICS Falmouth Road Race has made a significant impact on the local community. Falmouth Road Race Inc recently announced that this year’s Numbers for Nonprofits Program raised over US$7.8 million, the highest amount in a single year so far.
Over 4,300 runners took part in the program and raised funds for more than 200 official charity teams. Since the program began in 2000, it has raised a total of over US$71 million for charities and organizations in Massachusetts.
Andrea Norris, the Program Manager, expressed her admiration for the team captains and participants, highlighting their dedication and enthusiasm that contribute to the success of the initiative each year. Charitable giving has always been a core part of the Falmouth Road Race, with runners continuing a tradition that makes a real difference.
The Numbers for Nonprofits Program collaborated with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Jimmy Fund to support charitable causes. Starting in 1973, when funds were raised for the Falmouth High School girl’s track team, charitable giving has been integral to the race’s mission.
As a 501(c)3 charitable organization, Falmouth Road Race, Inc has given back over US$5.4 million to the community since 2012. This support comes in the form of scholarships, grant awards, donations to volunteer groups, sponsorships of local events, and the completion of various projects benefiting the town.
The race recognized top finishers at an awards ceremony, including the winners of the Margaret Bradley Award, which honours the fastest male and female Falmouth residents. Silas Gartner and Katie Barrett were this year’s recipients, showcasing their impressive running times.
The Margaret Bradley Award pays tribute to a local runner who passed away in 2004 and continues to honor her legacy. Executive Director Jennifer Edwards emphasized the importance of traditions like this award in preserving the race’s roots and fostering a sense of community spirit.
The 2024 ASICS Falmouth Road Race attracted over 11,000 participants, bringing together athletes of all levels. Brian Salzberg celebrated his 52nd finish, having participated in every race since its inception, while Kris Tholke, a Falmouth resident, completed her 37th consecutive race this year.
The event not only promotes fitness and competition but also serves as a platform for charitable giving and community support. The ASICS Falmouth Road Race has truly become a cornerstone of the local community, uniting runners from near and far in a shared celebration of athleticism and philanthropy.
