The women’s golf field for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games has been finalized, with some of the top players in the world set to compete. American golfer Nelly Korda, currently the top-ranked women’s golfer, will be looking to defend the gold medal she won in the 2020 Olympics in Japan. She will be joined by world No. 2 Lilia Vu and No. 9 golfer Rose Zhang.
The tournament will take place over four days, with the competition following the same stroke play rules as golf’s major tournaments. The three golfers with the fewest number of strokes after the four days of play will win medals. The schedule for the women’s golf tournament at the Paris Games is as follows:
– Round 1: Wednesday, August 7
– Round 2: Thursday, August 8
– Round 3: Friday, August 9
– Round 4: Saturday, August 10
The Olympic golf events will be held at Le Golf National, a course located in Guyancourt, near Versailles. This course is known for hosting the Open de France annually and previously hosted the Ryder Cup in 2018.
Qualifying for the Paris Games was a rigorous process, with 60 players competing in each tournament. The top 15 world-ranked players, as of June 24 for women, were automatically included in the field, with a limit of four players per country. The remaining 45 spots were filled by other top players who received at-large bids, with each country limited to two players through these bids.
Despite the star-studded field and the potential for exciting competition, there are concerns about the current state of women’s golf. Nelly Korda and the LPGA have the opportunity to elevate the sport, but there is a sense that they are not fully capitalizing on this potential. As the Paris Olympics approach, all eyes will be on the women’s golf tournament to see if it can showcase the best the sport has to offer and inspire a new generation of fans and players alike.
