Prema Racing team principal, Rene Rosin, has confirmed that talks are underway with Williams Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant about potentially joining the new IndyCar team in 2025. The successful junior team is set to make its debut in America’s premier open-wheel series next year, running two cars.

Sargeant, who raced with Prema in Formula 3 in Europe in 2020, finishing third in the championship, is being considered for a spot on the team. Rosin mentioned that while discussions with drivers are ongoing, the focus has been on building up the team to ensure competitiveness from the start, with driver lineup decisions coming later.

In addition to Sargeant, another Prema alumnus, Callum Ilott, who has experience in IndyCar, is also of interest to Rosin. However, Rosin emphasized that it is still early to finalize driver decisions, as the team is currently concentrating on team preparations and logistics.

Among the drivers potentially available in the market, 2016 Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi, who announced his departure from Arrow McLaren at the end of the season, has caught the attention of Rosin. The team’s U.S. operations will be led by Piers Phillips, with the team based in Indiana.

Sargeant’s future in F1 has been uncertain, with his performance in the sport being closely watched. Despite the speculation surrounding his future, Sargeant remains focused on his current responsibilities in F1 while exploring potential opportunities within and outside the sport.

As discussions continue and preparations are underway for the team’s debut in IndyCar, the final driver lineup for Prema Racing’s 2025 season is yet to be determined. With a focus on competitiveness and performance, the team is looking to make a strong entry into the American open-wheel racing scene.
