At least overnight, Hamburger SV is the leader of the 2nd Bundesliga. Host Holstein Kiel invests a lot of energy, scores twice late – but it’s too late and doesn’t score any more points. Relegated Arminia Bielefeld is still stuck in the table basement.
1. FC Nürnberg ended its mini-crisis in the 2nd Bundesliga with a late goal. After two defeats in a row, the old champions won 1-0 (0-0) against relegated Arminia Bielefeld and climbed to tenth place in the table. Lino Tempelmann scored with a header in the 90th minute. The guests from East Westphalia conceded their first defeat after the change of coach from Uli Forte to Daniel Scherning and are stuck in the bottom of the table with only five points from eight games.
The hosts had much more possession in the first half and fired more shots on goal. But against the compact defense of Bielefeld, the club only had a few clear chances. Kwadwo Duah (15′) and Jens Castrop (44′) had the best chances before the break, but were denied by Arminia keeper Martin Fraisl.
Duah was unlucky shortly after the restart when his goal was ruled out for offside after video evidence (52′). Then the Swiss shot freely over the goal after another mistake made by Bielefeld in the build-up play (68′). At the other end, Masaya Okugawa suddenly had the first high-quality chance for the guests with a header (73′).
With a hard-earned victory against the feared opponent, Hamburger SV has shot itself to the top of the table for the time being. Thanks to their strong goalkeeper Daniel Heuer-Fernandes and great effectiveness, HSV won 3-2 (1-0) at Holstein Kiel and thus achieved their first success against their northern rivals in the 2nd division in the eighth attempt.
Hamburg is now first with 18 points from eight games, but can be relegated during the course of the day. Despite a courageous performance, Kiel conceded the second defeat of the season and is seventh.
Scorer Robert Glatzel (39th), Moritz Heyer (69th) and Ludovit Reis (85th) scored for the ripped off HSV, on the other side Heuer-Fernandes was in front of 15,034 spectators early and often in the center of attention. The goalkeeper made saves against Patrick Erras (4th), Fabian Reese (8th) and Jan-Fiete Arp (17th). Heuer-Fernandes had no chance when Heyer’s own goal (90.3) and Fin Bartels’ goal (90.3).
In the second round, Kiel pushed vehemently, but without luck, to equalize. A goal by Arp did not count because of a foul on Heuer-Fernandes (65th), then Heyer surprisingly raised his head after a corner for HSV. Reis made it 3-0 after a strong individual performance, and Kiel fought back in the closing stages.
