Johnny Oduya is returning to the Blackhawks.
Despite general manager Stan Bowman saying the Hawks were not going to make a big splash at the trade deadline, they did just that Tuesday in acquiring Oduya, who helped the Hawks win two Stanley Cups in 2013 and 2015, from the Stars, a source confirmed.
The Hawks appeared to not give up much in the deal — the gave the Stars forward prospect Mark McNeill and a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2018 draft. The fourth-round pick becomes a third-rounder if the Hawks win two rounds of the playoffs and Oduya plays in 50 percent of the games.
To help make the deal work for the Hawks, a source told the Tribune the Stars are retaining 50 percent of Oduya’s $3.75 million salary and cap hit.
The trade was first reported by TSN.
