Clarisse Agbegnenou will not be European champion for the sixth time in her career. Saturday November 4, in Montpellier, the French judoka was beaten, in the quarter-finals, in the – 63 kg category, by Kosovar Laura Fazliu, number 2 in the world rankings.

In the second round, Clarisse Agbegnenou had already been pushed to her limits by the Finnish Emilia Kanerva, before winning by ippon in the golden score, after almost 10 minutes of fighting.

The reigning Olympic champion, also six-time world champion, will still compete in the repechage and can still hope to win bronze. The last time that Clarisse Agbegnenou did not reach the highest step of the podium in the continental competition was in 2012, in Chelyabinsk (Russia). That year, she finished third.
