The police in Jalandhar recently conducted a crackdown on drunken driving and public liquor consumption, resulting in 47 challans being issued. The aim of this special night drive, which took place over the last two days, was to improve public safety and uphold law and order especially near wine shops and other establishments.
Supervised by ACP Central and ACP Model Town, the operation occurred from 8pm to 11pm in areas under Police Station Division Number 4 and Division Number 7. SHOs from both police stations, along with the Traffic/ERS and Field Media Team (FMT), participated in the drive. A total of 185 vehicles were checked using breath analyzers to identify any drivers under the influence of alcohol.
The primary goal of the drive was not only to discourage drunken driving but also to prevent the illegal sale and consumption of alcohol inside vehicles, which poses a significant risk to public safety. As a result of the operation, 47 challans were issued for various violations. These included 11 for drinking and driving, which is a serious offence that the police are actively targeting. Other violations comprised 12 challans for not wearing helmets, eight for two-wheelers lacking proper number plates, and seven for triple riding. Additionally, three challans were given for vehicles with black window films, and six vehicles were impounded due to inadequate documentation.
The Commissionerate Police in Jalandhar highlighted that this special drive is part of their continuous efforts to promote road safety and ensure adherence to traffic rules. They reiterated their dedication to establishing a safer environment for residents and preventing illicit activities near liquor outlets. A police official affirmed that such operations will remain a top priority for the police to uphold public safety and order. This underscores the commitment of the police department to safeguarding citizens and maintaining law and order in the city.
