Football fans can watch one match per European Cup week on free-to-air TV until 2027. The RTL Group concludes a new media rights contract with UEFA. The contract for the Europa League and the Conference League covers the three seasons from 2024/25.
The games of the Europa and Conference League will run long-term on RTL. According to its own statements, the Cologne-based media company has secured the full broadcasting rights to the second and third-rate European Cup competition for a further three years until 2027. In addition to one live game per week on free TV on RTL or Nitro, there are other top games and a conference on the paid streaming service RTL as before.
“We are very pleased to continue the extraordinarily successful partnership with UEFA and to give football the greatest possible stage on our channels and platforms in the years to come,” said Stephan Schmitter, Chief Content Officer at RTL Germany: “Only with us can they experience Fans of top European football for free on free TV and with the new game mode more games than ever before.”
The Europa League has been broadcast on free TV by RTL Group since 2018, and the Conference League was introduced in 2021. From the new rights period for the 2024/25 season there will be more group games in Europe and the Conference League.
The Champions League, on the other hand, will remain completely behind the payment barrier in the future. DAZN and Amazon had already confirmed their new contracts with UEFA last year. DAZN will broadcast 186 games live from 2024/25. The online retailer Amazon shows 17 games per season in the reformed premier class via Prime Video. According to Prime Video, it has the first right of access when selecting a Tuesday game.
