Nadene Gole and Sue Wooster, two Australian golfers, have made their mark in the 62nd US Senior Women’s Amateur Championship held at Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle, Washington. Gole finished joint second in the 36-hole stroke play segment, while Wooster secured a share of fourth place. They will now advance to the match play phase along with Louise Mullard from Australia and Tomoko Suzuki from Japan.

Gole, with rounds of 74 and 71, finished just one stroke behind the medallist Shelly Stouffer of Canada with a total score of 145. On the other hand, Wooster posted scores of 74 and 73 in the stroke play segment. Both Gole and Wooster have had success in international championships before, with Wooster being the individual champion at the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation Women’s Senior Amateur team title in 2022, and Gole winning The R&A Women’s Senior Amateur championship in July.

Wooster, aged 62, has been a three-time runner-up in the US Senior Women’s Amateur Championship, with her latest defeat in the final coming in 2022 against Stouffer. Despite the challenges, both golfers are excited about the opportunity to compete at the Broadmoor Golf Club. Gole expressed her admiration for the course and its similarities to the greens back home in Melbourne.

In addition to Gole and Wooster, two other competitors from Japan, Tomoko Suzuki, and Itsuko Moridaira, will also be participating in the match play phase of the championship. Moridaira will have to compete in an eight-player playoff to secure one of the final six spots among the 64 qualifiers.

As the championship moves into the match play phase, golf enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the performances of these talented players from around the world. The experience and skill displayed by Gole, Wooster, and their fellow competitors promise an exciting and competitive conclusion to the US Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
