Hull City manager Tim Walter has made it clear that he is keen on keeping winger Ryan Longman at the club, despite interest from Birmingham City and Derby County. Longman, who spent last season on loan at Millwall, has been a regular in the team during pre-season.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of transfer speculation, with Birmingham City and Wrexham reportedly interested in acquiring his services. However, Walter has expressed his desire to retain Longman, citing his development during his loan spell at Millwall and his performances in pre-season as reasons for wanting to keep him at Hull City.

Longman recently suffered a shoulder injury, which will require him to focus on his recovery. The timing of the injury is unfortunate, especially with the new season set to kick off with a home game against Bristol City. Despite Walter’s intentions to keep Longman at the club, his long-term future at Hull City remains uncertain, as his contract is set to expire in June 2025.

Having come through the academy ranks at Brighton and Hove Albion, Longman has had spells at AFC Wimbledon before joining Hull City in 2021. Under former manager Liam Rosenior, Longman found himself out of favor and subsequently went on loan to Millwall.

With Walter now at the helm, Longman is looking at a fresh start and is expected to be a part of the manager’s plans for the upcoming season. This means that potential suitors such as Birmingham City and Derby County will need to explore other options in their search for reinforcements in Longman’s position.

Following their season opener against Bristol City, Hull City will face Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup. As the transfer deadline approaches, the focus will be on Longman’s future at the club and whether Hull City will look to cash in on him before risking losing him for free next year.
