Angel Cabrera, the two-time major golf champion, has been accused of trying to run down his ex-girlfriend with a van.
The former Masters and US Open champion is being investigated for allegedly causing “minor injuries” to Cecilia Torres Mana.
Mana has accused Cabrera of striking her, threatening her and then attempting to run her over with a van. A spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office in Cordoba, western Argentina, said that Cabrera had been interviewed and released.
The events are alleged to have taken place on Dec. 21 in the city of Villa Allende, in the western province of Cordoba, where both reside.
The prosecutor’s office said the case is still under investigation.
Cabrera, the red meat-eating, cigarette-smoking golfer, hit worldwide fame when he held off Tiger Woods to win the 2007 US Open at Oakmont.
He then backed up that major breakthrough with a victory at Augusta in 2009 after beating Chad Campbell and Kenny Perry in a playoff.

However, his form has slumped in recent years.
He finished 180th on last year’s PGA Tour money list and recorded just one top-25 finish with eight missed cuts.
