Former Australian Coach Takes Charge of Heat and Fire Teams as Noffke Steps Down
Queensland and Brisbane Heat are facing a coaching shakeup as Ashley Noffke departs his roles to take on a new challenge in New Zealand. Noffke, a former Bulls all-rounder, has been a prominent figure in coaching the Fire and Heat teams, winning accolades and titles during his tenure.
Noffke’s departure marks the second coaching change for Queensland this off-season, following Wade Seccombe’s resignation. Mark Sorell, a former Australia women’s coach, has been appointed as Noffke’s replacement, bringing with him years of experience and expertise.
During his time in Queensland, Noffke led the Heat to a successful WBBL campaign and guided Queensland to their first Women’s National Cricket League title. His coaching prowess was evident as he took both teams to the finals in their respective competitions.
Aside from his contributions to Queensland cricket, Noffke also has coaching experience in international leagues such as The Hundred and the Women’s Premier League. His new role as the head coach of Otago men’s team presents an opportunity for him to make a mark in New Zealand cricket.
Reflecting on his time in Queensland, Noffke expressed gratitude towards the players and staff who supported him throughout his coaching journey. He acknowledged the positive impact of senior players like Jess Jonassen and Georgia Redmayne, as well as his assistant coach and friend, Mark.
Queensland and Heat captain Jonassen voiced confidence in the team’s ability to adapt to the coaching transition. With Sorell taking the helm as head coach, Jonassen highlighted his experience and energy as valuable assets to the team.
While Noffke’s departure is bittersweet, his legacy in Queensland cricket remains strong. Players like Courtney Winfield-Hill and Jeff Thomas will continue to contribute to the team’s success, ensuring a smooth transition into the upcoming season.
As the Fire and Heat teams prepare for the 2024-25 season, new additions like Lauren Winfield-Hill and Mikayla Wrigley bring fresh talent and energy to the squad. With a blend of experienced and emerging players, Queensland and Brisbane Heat aim to build on Noffke’s legacy and strive for continued success in the seasons to come.
