Alexander Nübel is contractually part of Bayern Munich until 2025, the goalkeeper is currently on loan in France’s first division – because Manuel Neuer is blocking the place in the record champions’ goal. But after the international goalkeeper’s injury, the situation could change.

According to a media report, after the end of the season by regular goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, the German soccer record champion FC Bayern Munich is considering a premature return campaign by Alexander Nübel. According to information from the Sky TV channel, the 26-year-old keeper, who is on loan to AS Monaco until the summer of 2023, is open to an earlier return. “Before Alexander or I say anything about it, Bayern have to deal with Monaco first,” said Nübel advisor Stefan Backs to Sky on Saturday and played the ball to Munich.

The former U21 national player is contractually bound to the Bundesliga club until 2025. Nübel was to be set up as Manuel Neuer’s successor, but the plan had apparently not been agreed with the national goalkeeper: Neuer only extended his contract until 2024 this year instead of heralding the end of his career. Neuer was not very enthusiastic about Nübel’s supposedly contractually guaranteed deployment times. His designated successor only made four competitive appearances during his time at Bayern Munich.

According to his advisor, goalkeeper Alexander Nübel is scheduled to return to Bayern Munich. “There would have to be a lot to prevent that from happening,” Stefan Backs told Sky TV in early September. Those responsible at FC Bayern would clearly communicate that they were planning with the 26-year-old, Backs said. However, his client ruled out being in the squad again with Neuer and being loaned out again instead. Backs explained that it is not yet clear whether he will return to Monaco or to another club. “If Bayern extend Manuel Neuer again in the long term, then Alex will have to take a different path, that’s the way it is,” said Backs.

So now a new situation has arisen that could pave the way for Alexander Nübel to FC Bayern. At AS Monaco, he is one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1. According to Sky information, it is “currently rather impossible within the club” for Bayern to contest the second half of the season with new substitute Sven Ulreich and home-grown Johannes Schenk. Ulreich himself only recently returned after a lengthy injury break.
