Pothole repairs were causing traffic to back up Wednesday afternoon on westbound Interstate 78 and Route 22 in the area of the highways’ merge in Upper Macungie Township, Pennsylvania State Police at Fogelsville said,.
The work on I-78 West in the area was scheduled to wrap up for the day at 3 p.m., but set to resume 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
“The I-78 pothole patching seems to causing the backups,” PennDOT spokesman Sean Brown said Wednesday afternoon. “We have some holes that have development due to the weather and our maintenance crew had to get out there to repair.”

The repairs were scheduled on I-78 West between Exit 49 (Route 100) and Exit 45 (Route 863) and required the closure of one of a westbound lane, PennDOT said.
