The Pasapalabra contestants, Moisés and Fer, have four new celebrities starting this Monday, August 28, to help them get seconds with which to complete El Rosco, whose jackpot is about to exceed 800,000 euros. On this occasion, Jacqueline de la Vega, Patxi Salinas, Minerva Piquero and King África will parade on the Antena 3 set. Let’s get to know this latest guest a little better.

King Africa is actually called Alan Duffy and with catchy songs he dethroned Georgie Dann to be the King of the summer.

The 54-year-old artist has taken care not to reveal almost any detail of his life. To begin with, it is not clear if he was born in New York or Buenos Aires, although it was in the capital of Argentina where he grew up. It is known that over time he settled for love in Valladolid, where he became a faithful follower of the Pucelano team, and that today he lives between the Castilian-Leonese city and Puerto Banús (Málaga).

Duffy was a DJ who worked for the Oíd Mortales record label, making jingles for television and radio commercials, while trying his luck in a rock band.

In the mid-1990s, he was offered a path he had not planned to take: joining King Africa, an Argentine Latin pop band whose singer, rapper Martin Laacré, had just left. Duffy accepted the challenge, helped to revive the group and ended up being renamed with the band’s own name.

With his wide multicolored tunics, his sunglasses and above all with his curious high-pitched voice, capable of dragging the r’s to infinity and beyond, King Africa conquered the summers of half the world. “Dancerrrrr, dance, Dancerrr.”

In Spain, he achieved unexpected success in 2000 with the song La Bomba (who is capable of reading “Bomba! A sensual movement. A very sexy movement” without humming?), and he continued penetrating venues and open-air festivals with Mama yo quiero; Cheek, chest, navel; Paquito the chocolatier; Carnavalito or El camaleón, this last song released before her first hit.

The phenomenon of La Bomba and King Africa spread through Portugal, Germany, Italy, Romania, Switzerland… reaching Las Vegas, Canada and Japan.

Always exclusively showing his artistic side, Alan Duffy surprised locals and strangers when, in 2005, he competed in Big Brother VIP. His stay at the house in Guadalix de la Sierra (Madrid) lasted 35 days, he being the fourth expelled in an edition that was won by the Mexican Ivonne Armant. Pasapalabra is another program in which Duffy has also been seen on occasion.

His last attempt to rise again with the song of the summer was in 2022 with La Colita, a song that shares the spotlight with Clase-A and Raudel Raul. And in 2023 she has been seen performing at festivals like Love The Twenties.
