Anyone who is absolutely forbidden to stop or parks illegally in a disabled parking space risks having their car towed away. Municipal workers keep their eyes peeled. But in some places there are not enough of them.

Stuttgart/Freiburg (dpa/lsw) – In Baden-Württemberg’s cities, there are sometimes not enough inspectors of illegal parkers. The cities suffer to varying degrees from a lack of staff in this area, as a survey by the German Press Agency in several cities revealed.

In Stuttgart there is a shortage of personnel. Towing measures have been decreasing here since 2020. This can not only be explained by less traffic during the Corona years, but also by an innovation introduced in August 2020, the “Stuttgarter Zeitung” and the “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” recently wrote. Accordingly, the mobile complaints teams are now working on the instructions of a mobile operations center, which sends the inspectors to reported locations. By the time they arrive at the scene, however, the cars are often either gone or there is no legal basis for towing them. In addition, the inspectors worked understaffed, according to the report. With the mobile complaints team, only 9 of the 27 positions are currently occupied.

According to a city spokeswoman, in Freiburg too, not all positions can be filled with technically suitable personnel.
