Munich (dpa / lby) – With the bus from Munich to the mountains: With the introduction of the 49-euro monthly ticket for local transport, this offer will hardly be able to be managed privately any longer. “Right now, with a 49-euro ticket, it is unthinkable that we will continue to receive the Munich mountain bus as a private offer,” said Matthias Ballweg, board member of the Oberland section of the Munich Alpine Club

According to Ballweg, the process of growing together with the MVV is sluggish. “The speed of integration is frustratingly slow. I no longer dare to predict that it will definitely work in 2024. What is already certain is that it will not work in 2023.” The background is European tendering guidelines, some with twelve-month deadlines. “And it’s because an enormous number of partners have to come to an agreement in enormously bureaucratic processes.”

The mountain bus now has two seasons behind it. In the coming year, the offer will be reduced. “It won’t be to the same extent as this year. This year, like last year, we had fixed lines,” said Ballweg. “Reliably twice a weekend day, per line to the mountains and back. We will now select individual destinations next year and drive to them and communicate that in a dedicated manner.”

Ballweg emphasized: “It must be more attractive to choose the climate-conscious route to the mountains than the non-climate-conscious one.” The Alpine Club wants to use the mountain bus to reduce greenhouse gas emissions when mountaineers travel there. In addition, the bus is intended to counteract traffic jams and problems with parking in popular excursion destinations. In the past, there had been conflicts with residents because of overcrowded parking lots.

The federal and state governments recently cleared the way for a 49-euro monthly ticket. This is planned as a digital, nationwide valid Germany ticket for local transport. When it starts is unclear.
