Magdeburg (dpa/sa) – On Saturday morning, the approximately 16 meter high fir tree for the Christmas market was felled on a terraced house in Magdeburg in the Lemsdorf district. The roots of the approximately 46-year-old tree had meanwhile reached the foundations and the fir would have been endangered by a violent autumn storm, according to the Magdeburger Weihnachtsmarkt GmbH. The owners offered the gem to the Christmas market. Experts arrived with a crane on Saturday. In the afternoon, the fir tree, weighing around 4.6 tons, was to be set up on the Alter Markt. The Christmas market around the town hall opens from November 21st to December 29th.
