Passau (dpa / lby) – The interior of Passau’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral was illuminated in blood red on Friday evening. With this, the Diocese of Passau showed its solidarity with persecuted Christians worldwide. The initiator of the annual campaign is the Catholic aid organization Church in Need.
Around the world on Red Wednesday, November 23 this year, numerous churches, monasteries, monuments and public buildings are illuminated in blood red or illuminated. In Bavaria, in 2022, the Cathedral of St. Peter in Regensburg and the Augsburg Cathedral will also be included.
While churches have been illuminated in red for a longer period of time in recent years, the Church in Need says it is using shorter lighting phases this year in order to make a statement in the face of the energy crisis.
