Floh-Seligenthal/Schmalkalden (dpa/th) – In southern Thuringia, a 49-year-old woman was critically injured in a knife attack by a man. In a statement, the police spoke of a “serious family dispute” in which a 57-year-old attacked the woman on Friday in an office in a district of Floh-Seligenthal (Schmalkalden-Meiningen district). She suffered cuts and stab wounds and required emergency surgery. The perpetrator fled, the police arrested him after a one-and-a-half hour pursuit, including with a helicopter at his home in Schmalkalden. He was provisionally arrested.

When asked, a police spokeswoman initially did not provide any information about the relationship between the perpetrator and the victim. There were also no further details, such as whether the man had a criminal record, with reference to the ongoing investigation.
