Rottweil (dpa / lsw) – In the murder trial of a 38-year-old man who is said to have poured petrol over his twin brother and his 72-year-old mother and set them on fire, a verdict was made today. The 38-year-old German is said to have committed the crime in Horb at the end of March. Days later, the mother succumbed to severe injuries to her face, arms and torso. His identical twin brother survived with serious injuries. According to the indictment, after the attacks on his two family members, with whom the accused lived, he set the house on fire. There was damage of around 500,000 euros. During the hearing, the defendant admitted part of the crime he was accused of.

The representative of the public prosecutor’s office applied for a life sentence with a determination of the particular gravity of the guilt. The defense attorney did not file an application, but addressed the question of the particularly serious nature of the guilt, which he considered to be in the negative.

The alleged perpetrator fled after the crime. The German was caught by the police a few days later because a woman had noticed a car on a road near Marxzell (Karlsruhe district) – about 80 kilometers from the crime scene. The witness had read the manhunt for the 38-year-old and his car and informed the police. When they checked, officers found the man in the car. Despite severe burn injuries, he was responsive.
