Demmin (dpa / mv) – A steel bolt twelve centimeters thick messed up the renovation work on the bridge over the Peene in Demmin (Mecklenburg Lake District district). As the State Office for Road Construction announced on Wednesday, despite the greatest efforts, the bolt could not be loosened since Monday. The tie rods of the bridge could not be loosened and changed as planned. The renovation, which was actually planned from Monday to Friday with half-way blocking of the B110, was canceled.
The axle pin is an important part of the connection between the bridge and the tie rod. Recently, a bridge specialist tried to loosen the bolt with a pulling force of up to 60 tons, but failed.
The bridge has now been reopened to road and ship traffic after a test opening followed by a safety check. Specialists have now determined the cause of the very tight axle bolt. Then a “most suitable technology for loosening the bolt should be determined.” The replacement of the bridge parts, for which around 237,000 euros are available, will then take place later.
