The automotive industry relies almost exclusively on battery-powered electromobility. But there are also other solutions such as synthetic fuels: e-fuels are liquid fuels that are produced from electricity, water and CO2 – even climate-neutral if CO2 is extracted from the atmosphere during production and only renewable energies are used.
E-fuels could therefore replace conventional petrol and diesel fuels in the long term, reduce climate-damaging CO2 emissions and thus make an important contribution to climate protection – but only if the renewable energy used is not lacking elsewhere at the same time. ntv mobil took a close look at the pros and cons.
