Weßling (dpa / lby) – In the middle of Weßling (Starnberg district) an ATM was blown up on Wednesday night. The perpetrators escaped after the explosion at around 2.40 a.m. in a dark car towards the motorway, the police said. The officials initially gave no information about the damage to property. They are now looking for witnesses to the incident.

According to the State Criminal Police Office, the blast is the third in November and the 31st this year in Bavaria. This is a significant increase compared to the previous year, when there were only 17 cases in the Free State.

The police assume that nationwide behind about two thirds of all blown up ATMs are groups operating from the Netherlands. Unfortunately, it is difficult to catch the perpetrators because they acted in a highly professional and incredibly ruthless manner. Most of the time, the ATMs are near a freeway, which allows for a quick escape, sometimes at very high speeds.
