Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) – Leaseholders of municipal land in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania face a significant increase in costs. Sales tax must be levied on the previous rental prices for the first time from 2023, as Neubrandenburg’s Mayor Silvio Witt (independent) announced on Wednesday. This affects, among other things, tenants of vehicle parking spaces, boat moorings and boat sheds and garages. In Neubrandenburg, hundreds of new contracts are currently being sent in this context.

The background is a nationwide reorganization of the sales tax law. In the four-gate city alone, around 750 garage owners and around 640 leaseholders of boat berths and sheds are affected by the 19 percent increase. The increase does not affect sovereign tasks.
