Erfurt (dpa/th) – State President Birgit Pommer has declared a referendum by the AfD against compulsory vaccination to be permissible. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Thuringian parliament on Tuesday in Erfurt. The AfD said in a statement that the step was “a great democratic success”.

According to the state parliament administration, the state government or a third of the state parliament deputies can appeal to the Thuringian Constitutional Court within one month “if they do not meet the requirements for admission or consider the referendum to be incompatible with higher-ranking law.”
