Aschaffenburg (dpa / lby) – A more than 300-year-old historic sandstone column in the Aschaffenburg city and monastery archives was destroyed by a car in an accident. “The column has completely collapsed,” said a police spokesman on Monday. According to an initial estimate, the material damage to the column in the entrance area of ??the building from the late 17th century is around 50,000 euros. The driver of the car was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

According to previous information, the 37-year-old had ignored the right of way of another car in the roundabout immediately in front of the archive. After the collision, her car went off the road and crashed into the pillar.

According to the archive management, the entrance area was then cordoned off. Now a temporary support is to be erected until a new column is ready.
