Hohenstein (dpa/th) – A lifeless man was found during extinguishing work in an apartment building in Hohenstein in the Nordhausen district. When trying to resuscitate the 61-year-old, five rescue workers suffered smoke inhalation on Thursday evening, the police said on Friday morning. Earlier, witnesses alerted the police due to heavy smoke outside the man’s home. According to the emergency services on site, the man died shortly before the fire broke out. As a result, his food caught fire on the stove and developed the heavy smoke. A crisis intervention team was deployed to provide support.
